10km event in Open Water Swimming at the Beijing 2008 Olympic games (PR70)
FINA has the great pleasure to announce that the IOC Executive Board today decided to include in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games competition programme the 10km event for men and women in open water swimming.
"This decision highlights the added-value of the Aquatic disciplines within the Olympic programme. At the same time, it represents an additional responsibility for FINA, which together with its National Federations and Continental Associations will continue working for the development of our Sport worldwide," said FINA President Mustapha Larfaoui.
All the five FINA disciplines - swimming, diving, water polo, synchronised swimming and open water swimming - will now be represented in the Olympic Games competition programme.
